The Ingredients

Its basic ingredients include a thin wonton wrapper or nori sheets and fillings of any sorts - such as ground pork, shrimp, seafood, veggies, quail eggs, and other finely chopped ingredients. It looks very simple & very yummy to prepare, isn't it? This special food is gaining much popularity in Cebu, Manila and almost all over the country just as it is popular around the world.

And if it's popular, it means that businesses directly related to it is also booming...

I don't really know what exactly the reasons are for its explosive popularity.

However, since I think I have a talent in cooking (hmm, according to my friends who patronizes me, or "matud nila..."), I can think of some probable reasons, below.

And, actually, I love dimsum too. I had it in Hong Kong last August (2011), quite different from the Korean dumplings, though.So, basing on my experience and connoisseur of dumplings, I would suggest some of the reasons.

  • it is quick to prepare
  • it is readily available for busy people...
  • has choices of ingredients: for vegetarians, meet eaters, seafood eaters, non-pork for Muslims, etc.
  • it doesn't get spoiled readily
  • it's light and easy to pack
  • it can be eaten as breakfast, snack, or as main dish
  • and ingredients wise, it doesn't have much carbohydrates in it
  • it can have a simple taste but delicious enough that everyone can try without hesitation or asking too many questions...

Yes, I can write loads of reasons. You know what I mean... or, you'll understand me when you try it. Go ahead, if you haven't tried it yet.

And, of course, there are thousands of dishes available owing to various ethnic or regional groups of people and food resources.

The thousands of islands (7,000 plus) can provide different cuisines of various ingredients and tastes...


Yes, all other Asian, Western, or Mediterranean food are also available in Cebu. You can find these restaurants in any business centers, beach resorts and hotels, and inside the malls.
